Well, first thing’s first: Welcome to my SUBSTACK, How’d I End Up Here!
For those who are new here – or to me as a writer/creator – I thought I’d put up a post explaining what I’ll be sharing in this space and why I’m charging for some of it.
This all started as an experiment, to be honest. I’ve never charged for digital content I’ve created and SUBSTACK has made it possible to do so in a way that’s fair – both to my readers and to me – and easy. And right now, I need easy.
But also, I’m currently a freelancer, so a little extra income would be nice.
More than anything, though, I’m doing this because for the last few months I’ve finally started honoring my creative curiosity to get back into writing and in doing so, it’s led me here.
Somewhat weekly, I’ll be sharing personal essays and stories, covering a range of topics, like love and dating in the age of the apps (God help us all!), starting over (again and again), letting go of the life I thought I’d have, the trials and joys of trying new things as an adult (turns out it’s a hell of a lot harder to step out of my comfort zone now than it was when I was younger), and how paying attention to signs from the Universe and following my intuition (and curiosity) has shaped my life.
As for what you can expect from my writing: honesty, vulnerability, hope and a healthy dose of humor for good measure (and comedic relief) because I won’t be holding back on the tough stuff, either. Life is messy, mundane, magical…and I want to talk about it all.
I recently felt the pull to start storytelling again, but wanted to do so in a way that feels safe, intimate. Enter SUBSTACK and its reader-supported option. There’s something about putting a portion of this content behind a paywall that makes me more comfortable with sharing such personal details and experiences from my life.
It’s as if those who join the paid subscription are making a pact with me – holding space for my vulnerability, while tapping further into theirs.
It is such a special thing to be able to connect in this way, but it’s also really scary as the creator to put it all out there for absolutely ANYONE to see, so I’ve decided I’m not going to.
I don’t need everyone to read everything that I write. In fact, it feels so much more meaningful to share these stories with the mighty few who’ve chosen to invest their time and money to be here. If that’s you, thank you.
And if you’re not sure you want to move beyond the FREE subscription, I get it. There are a lot of things vying for our attention and money these days, so I get not wanting to – or being able to – financially commit to everything.
Or maybe you’re just figuring out if I’m your cup of tea and need a little more time and a few more freebies to help you decide. I get that, too.
Building trust and connection takes time, but I’m willing to keep working at it, if you are.
No matter your reason for reading or subscribing – whether for free or paid – I’m just really grateful you’re here and I hope you’ll keep coming back and sharing this space with me.
